Schools

Derbyshire Children and Young People's Health Promotion programme will continue to support schools to promote healthier living and learning to their pupils and families. This support will be provided when it links into cluster priorities, other local services and multiagency teams (MATs).

Most schools in Derbyshire achieved National Healthy Schools Status (NHSS) and completed an Annual Review to maintain their status. Although the national website no longer exists, a health and wellbeing self review tool (whole school review/annual review) is available to download for schools to work through on your own. We recommend that you do this biannually rather than annually. Unfortunately supporting the Healthy Schools process is no longer part of our work and it is no longer accredited nationally.  However, we do still support schools, services and early years settings with their Health Promotion needs as part of MAT and individual Health Promotion Plans.

We know that all the policies and practice that schools have worked so hard to change in order to meet healthy schools criteria has helped to make schools healthier, happier and more productive places. You can maintain the criteria using the health and wellbeing review for your own records and evidence for Ofsted.

By continuing and maintaining these changes schools have a sound basis for further health promotion work. Focussing on local and school priorities the Health Promotion Tool along with our support enables schools to continue to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people.

Our matrix leads, and other team members, will work with professionals through training and support to help ensure children and young people in Derbyshire receive a high quality service from confident professionals. To access support in these matrix areas, please contact the matrix lead.

If you have any support services on site that contribute to young people's health you may wish to apply for the You're Welcome Quality Award. Similarly, if you know any young people aged 13-19 years old who would benefit from training to be ‘Young Inspectors', you can get involved in the initiative.

In addition to the downloads within the Resources & Support Materials and Health Promotion Tools sections there are the following school specific/curriculum downloads that support this health promotion work:
